Don and Barbara Stone purchased the RoadRunners in May of 2009. A “bucket list” desire of Don’s (or his “mid-life crisis” as his wife calls it), came to fruition when the franchise became available. Their passion for the sport, their desire to give back to kids, along with their prior experience of having sons play in the NAHL, made this a natural fit for their family.
Playing pond hockey while growing up in Rochester, NY, Don graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from RIT. As a CPA, he worked at Arthur Andersen, Price Waterhouse and KPMG. He is an active entrepreneur having interests in a commercial real estate business, an accounting and tax practice, a parking management company, and numerous other equity investments.
Don is currently a USA Hockey level 4 coach. He has been involved in coaching for 25 years, and has coached at every level from mite to midget, house league to travel. As Governor of the Georgia Student Hockey League for the past 10 years, he has been instrumental in growing the program from 8 teams to 18 teams. His high school team has won the State Championship for the past two years and has advanced to the National tournament. He is an active member of the USA Hockey affiliate (SAHA), serving as a Board member the last 4 years, and currently holds the position of treasurer. As a NAHL team owner, Don is a member of the NAHL Board of Governors, sits on the NAHL Executive Committee, and serves as its Vice-Chairman.
Don and Barbara live in Atlanta, and spend their time traveling to watch their kids play hockey.
